2012 WINNERS ANNOUNCED:
(Canton, Ohio) -- The Ohio Lincoln Highway is announcing its 2012 Scavenger Hunt winners. This competition ran in conjunction with the eighth annual BUY-WAY Yard Sale and offers "Fun Things to Do Along the Lincoln Highway" as prizes for three randomly selected qualified entrants.
First place was awarded to Joann Moritz of Canton, Ohio. Second place went to Donna McCaffery of Holley, NY, and third went to Chelle Konst of Columbus, Ohio.
Participants scavenged a list of inexpensive items during their adventures on the BUY-WAY, then sent photos of them for the chance to win prizes; consisting of overnight stays, restaurant and retail gift certificates, free passes to museums, subscriptions and free snacks, and more...all along the Lincoln Highway in Ohio.
First place winner Joann remarked that all the items were relatively easy to find, but that needing the can opener took her and her husband into the second day of the sale, and in the opposite direction of home.
This fun three-day shopping and touring event happens the second weekend in August. It offers bargains for all, and also showcases Ohio's portion of America's first coast-to-coast highway. The "Lincoln" was created by private efforts in 1913 to demonstrate that building paved automobile roads were needed for the country's growing automobile trend of transportation. The Lincoln Highway was built by improving existing roads and connecting them together for "the shortest and safest" path from New York to San Francisco.
Ohio Director MIke Hocker reported that in spite of the wet weather over 1,000 group and individual sales appeared again this year in Ohio. Sales also occurred in West Virginia as well as parts of Indiana, Illinois and Iowa.
